XIAO is an independent artist working at the intersection of tradition and contemporary vision. Based in the mountainous Lingnan region , her practice is rooted in classical Chinese ink painting while being shaped by both Eastern and Western philosophical inquiry.
Through meticulous observation and contemplative practice, she documents the subtle gestures of mountain and stream creatures — birds in flight, insects in stillness, flowering plants in their seasonal cycles. As a female artist in the contemporary ink painting landscape, XIAO brings a distinctive sensibility to the medium — one that balances technical mastery with emotional depth, tradition with innovation. She believes that while a painting's edges are finite, the world it captures is boundless.

Gold is among the oldest grounds in Eastern painting—bearing the
solemnity of Dunhuang murals, echoing the splendor of imperial scrolls.
In the "Gold" series, I move ink across gold paper. The ink grows
quieter against the gold; the gold softens beneath the ink. This is not
merely decoration—it is a return to gold's essence: a metaphor for
light, a patina of time.
With each stroke, ink and gold complete each other—ink gains richness
from gold, gold gains refinement from ink. The result is work that
carries both the weight of tradition and the lightness of the present:
compelling from afar, intimate up close.
This series is a renewed gaze upon gold—not merely to adorn, but to
illuminate.
